Expert Guidance
This webinar features Julie Friend, a lawyer who specializes in risk assessment, institutional liability, and emergency preparedness and response for university- and college-sponsored international travel.

Friend has worked in the field of international education for 16 years, previously serving as international analyst for travel health, safety, and security for the Office of Study Abroad and the Center for International Studies and Programs at Michigan State University.

Her current work includes policy development regarding health, safety, and risk assessment, as well as emergency preparedness and response training for study-abroad program leaders. Most recently, she is working with faculty in high-risk locations abroad to develop comprehensive personal and facilities security plans. She is a member of the Executive Council of the U.S. Department of State Overseas Security Advisory Council and also writes regularly for the International Educator about insurance and overseas study and travel.
