The
planning committee for the 2004
Executive MBA Council Conference
met recently in San Francisco
at the historic Palace Hotel,
the site of this year’s
conference. With
representatives from 18 different
schools, the team already has
begun preparations for the conference,
set for Oct. 31-Nov. 2.
The 2004 event will offer attendees
plenty of opportunities to learn,
network, and enjoy the beauty
of the city by the Bay. Early
highlights include:
Theme
The planning committee selected
the conference theme, "Building
Bridges, Creating Connections."
The conference will include
sessions that reflect the theme’s
core components and will seek
to integrate all Executive MBA
Program areas.

Lucy Maillette (maillette@bus.msu.edu)
and John Fraser (john-fraser@uiowa.edu),
the 2004 co-subcommittee chairs
of the Concurrent and Developmental
Sessions, have been hard at
work developing the content
tracks for this year’s
San Francisco conference. Emphasis
will be placed on presentations
that involve the conference
theme, “Building Bridges:
Creating Connections,”
including sessions that relate
to the four conference tracks:
- Faculty Connections
- Corporate Relations
- International Collaborations
- Student Experience
The deadline for submission
of the online
RFP is June 4, 2004, with
notification of selected session
and workshop presenters to be
made by July 12. Last year,
the committee received a record
number of 52 proposals, with
13 from international schools.
Toolkit
The ever-popular Executive MBA
Toolkit kicks off the conference
on Oct. 30. Designed for new
program staff and faculty members,
the Executive MBA Toolkit offers
the must-know basics of Executive
MBA Programs: marketing, budgeting,
managing student expectations,
and more.
An experienced team of Executive
MBA Council members leads toolkit
sessions. The toolkit also provides
the opportunity to network with
other newcomers to the Executive
MBA.
Silent Auction
A social, networking, and charitable
event, the Silent Auction raises
funds for a local charity that
shares Executive MBA Council's
mission and vision.
All conference participants
can support this worthy and
fun event, as both donors and
shoppers. It’s not too
early to start thinking about
what you or your school might
donate. Examples of past contributions
include:
- City, state, or country-related
apparel, specialty items,
vacation packages, sports
items
- Collectibles, such as fine
art, photography, autographs,
memorabilia
- Getaways, such as airline
tickets, cruises, hotel, inn,
